Edgar discovers a world of sound
When Edgar was two years old, he contracted malaria. He recovered, but the treatment had serious consequences: Edgar lost his hearing.
As he grew older, it became increasingly difficult for him to follow lessons at school. His grandfather realized that hearing loss might be the reason and took Edgar to the ABC Hearing Clinic, where his hearing loss was confirmed. But his family could not afford the hearing aids he needed.
With support from the Hear the World Foundation, Edgar received his first hearing aids. When they were fitted and Edgar could hear again, he began to laugh with joy. Suddenly, a whole new world of sound opened up to him.
Today, his hearing aids help Edgar participate more fully in family life. His story shows the difference access to professional hearing care can make in a child's life.
